Tracing its culinary lineage back to 1963 when Dwight Messinger established the original foundation in Huntington, West Virginia, Dwight’s of St. Albans stands today as a testament to enduring Appalachian hospitality. It is a legacy preserved. Since 1993, owner Mike Messinger has stewarded this local institution, celebrating over 53 years of business by maintaining the "mom and pop" ethos that customers travel fifty miles to experience. The kitchen’s philosophy is singular: absolute freshness. No shortcuts are taken. From the hand-pattied lean ground beef used in the famous "Husky" burgers to the hand-breaded cold water haddock and daily chopped vegetables, every ingredient is treated with care. The signature cubed steak requires a meticulous process; it is floured, seasoned, pan-fried, and subsequently baked in a rich brown gravy until it achieves a fork-tender consistency that rivals "Mamaw's cookin." This dedication extends to the bakery, where cakes, pies, and cookies are crafted on-site. Breakfast is never out of reach. With scratch-made biscuits, sausage gravy, and pancakes that locals claim surpass national chains, these morning favorites are served at any hour.
